I don’t talk about our military roots very often, but we are a military family. My husband has been active-duty Air Force for 18 years. During that time, we have been fortunate as a family to only have one brief ten week deployment. My father-in-law served during Vietnam, and my Grandfather-In-Law served during World War 2 in Japan. We are always ready and willing for a deployment if it should come. I love finding books that teach my children about the military and the Air Force because is so much a part of their heritage. I’ve blogged about the Cooper and Me books in the past, so when a chance came up to review this book about Cooper and Me and the Military I was probably first in line!
The military family is unusual because both parents are active duty, and both parents are deployed at the same time. The book shows different ways that the family stays in touch and offers several other activities in the back of the book. One of the best things about Cooper and Me books is that they are presented from the dog’s point of view. I love that. Mostly because my little guys all love that! We have already read this book a couple times, and I suspect we will be reading it over and over in the coming years.

Overview From The Publisher:
Meet Trooper, Cooper’s best friend, and learn how he was adopted by Gracie and Joe and their parents, who both serve in the military. Find out how this family stays close despite being separated.
A must-read during patriotic holidays and for anyone with friends and family in the military, this book helps children know, that even when loved ones aren’t with us, they still love us and think about us. This book, along with all the other books in the Cooper and Me series, includes these interactive features:
• A Special Memory Creation
• Life Lesson
• Connections
• Learning Together
In addition to a fun adventure, each Cooper and Me story teaches an important Life Lesson and features interactive materials at the back of the book to drive the message home. Included are activities that help children name and process their own feelings about what they’ve read.
My Bottom Line: I would recommend this book to anyone with family in the military and anyone looking to teach their children about life in the military and being supportive of our troops. The illustrations are great, the material is great, and the dogs are adorable… Definitely a keeper!
The Best Part: One lucky reader will win a copy of Cooper and Me and the Military! Please be sure to read all the instructions for your entries and please tell your friends!
